I've recently been introduced to Lana Del Rey and I absolutely love her style and creativity. She has definitely been turning heads with her sense of style and vocals for a little over a year.
The internet has been going crazy after she released her new music video "National Anthem" this morning. The video displays Lana Del Rey in the beginning as JFK's Mistress Marilyn Monroe singing "Happy Birthday Mr. President". As the video continues Lana play's Jackie O and Rapper A$AP Rocky play's a modern John F. Kennedy. The video shows their life up to the point of the President's tragic death.
I think the meaning of the video is specifically directed toward interracial couples. As everyone knows, back in the 60's people didn't approve of interracial couples. Now a days an interracial couple is normal in society. Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky displayed the fact that being happy has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Having a Black man as JFK could also remind the world of John F. Kennedy's dedication to being a Civil Rights supporter.
